Havaianas were created in Brazil in 1962, inspired by the Zori sandal. A traditional Japanese sandal with fabric straps and soles made of woven rice straw. Havaianas replaced the straw with rubber, gave the design a modern twist, and the rest is history! That’s why the soles of Havaianas feature the iconic rice grain pattern. One of the many design elements that make them so unique. And where does the name “Havaianas” come from? In Portuguese, it means “Hawaiians,” chosen as a tribute to the tropical and glamorous holiday destination known for its endless summer vibes.
